hinge

Usually the heat will form a dome shaped head as the plastic melts. I experimented with a candle and some sprue last night after not using this technique for years. Don't let the plastic catch fire. The plastic also tends to not look right at first until it gets to the top of the paper hinge. I am going to use a solder iron as the heat remains constant and see what those results do. When I did the hinges in plasic modeling they turned out domed and flush with the top of the hinge. I think practice and the right size strue will also be a factor. A side note, if you melt and stretch octagon or square sprue it usually retains the original shape. I will experiment on that in the next few days.

In essance ,you could make a jig with numerous hole drilled to support sprue and make multiple rivet heads to place on those models requiring them. Size could be changed as well. Picture to follow. Man sometimes I digress.....
