Cool Mitsubishi B2M1 Type 89 in 1/100 scale

Hello my friends!

Time to show my last model. Is a full scratchbuilding in 1/100 scale (used the old school methods to made a paper model without 3D software). The subject is a Mitsubishi B2M1 Type 89 Model 1, a japanese navy torpedo plane of 1930's

This interesting warplane, is designed by Blackburn ( is a enlarged version of Blackburn Rippon). The T-7B or 3MR4 design is show to Mitsubishi in 1927, the japanese company buy the design and put this type in mass production.

The major changes in relation to Rippon is a used for a big water cooled engine Hispano-Suiza 12LBR and the upper wing with a wingspan smaller than the lower.

The B2M1 is introduced in service in 1932, but the plane is not popular in Navy because a structural weakness and frequent engine failure (because a poor quality in magnetos), beside the problems this type served until 1938 and participated in early stages of sino-japanese war.

Because this type of plane, designed by foreign countries and incipience in manufacturing, Western strategists developed the belief that the Japanese had not the outbreak of World War II modern aircraft, with types able to offer qualified air opposition. What happened to Japanese industrial park from the second half of the 1930s was totally ignored by the Allies.
