One of the reasons I changed to (and will stay with paper largely) is the ridiculous cost of paints. Here a bottle of Tamiya or Testors costs around $10.00! Imported blah blah. Plus the ridiculous costs of kits - go cost the Tamiya Swordfish as an example.
That's why the plastic kits I make are mostly 1/72 armour - can get away with a few colours - and are either bought from the Eastern bloc manufacturers (who are making reasonable kits of some very unique subjects ) or are scratch built.
