Church of Maria in Krakow GPM

The church of Maria is placed at the main marketplace in Krakow. Todays building was founded in 14th century. The higher spire was finished in 1478, the lower followed in 16th century. The main spire was used in medieval as lookout for fire and enemies. Still today a fireman plays every hour a melody on his trumpet from this tower called 'Hejnal Mariacki'.

The inside of the cathedral is equipped with artwork and goldsmith's art. The coloured windows give a wonderful light. The main treasure is a carved altar of Veith Stoß. This sculptor came 1477 to Krakow to realize the main altar for the church of Maria. The altar is made of wood, covered with gold, the figures are more than 2 m high, the complete altar has a hight of more than 8 m.

It's a nice detail of GPM's kit, that this altar is added as an extra part. Printing and paper look very good, there are fine details to see. The whole kit will be not easy to assemble, there many some small parts for an architectural model.

This will be a work for some long winter.

Best regards
Dieter
