The way i got the masts and beams to be more rigid was to use plenty of ca glue {super Glue} Let it soak into the paper tube and dry thoroughly. I used standard cotton thread for the cables, only trouble with that is that it attracts dust and is hard to keep dust free... use something better like fishing line or similar
