A7D - background

The LTV Corsair II was designed to serve the NAVY as a replacemt for the A4 Skyhawk.
The engineers at LTV decided to adopt the F8U Crusader frame with some changes.
The wings were without the up and down mechanism to save weight and the swept
back value was lowered to 35 degress. The engine was without an AB- as this is not
an important requirement for an attack plane.
The plane was designed to carry almost twice the bomb load of the Skyhawk.
Nose section was small and the pilot had a nice compartment in front that helped
carrier landings. also the body length was reduced by 2 meters in compare to the
Crusader and the frame was stiffened in order to fly low level with big bomb load.
New electronics was developed for the A7 and this will be described in the next chapters.
