After you get comfortable with the medium, I highly recommend trying out layering techniques. It's really fun to take a model with printed textures, then print extra pages and add three dimensional texture to an area that has pipes and other greebles. You can see the layered detail I added to the top of my Type 9 Shuttlecraft model:
The sensor mechanism was duplicated several times in this kit, so I figured it would be fun to layer the detail and make it look like it was more plastic than paper. Worked pretty well, too.
Also, those matte gray areas around the windows were actually painted with gray paint because they didn't align properly, but it demonstrates that you can use regular model paint to touch up the model if you desire.
