To finish this thread let me tell you that I purchased the Brother MFC-J985DW. It had good reviews and although it does not have ink tanks, the cartridges are reasonably priced and they supposedly last quite a while.
The price point was $180 including tax. The print detail is superb! The color is somewhat flat even when using photo paper. The colors it prints are close to what I see on my monitor. Installation was easy and now my wife is able to print directly from her I Pad because the printer is another wireless device on our WIFI.
Thanks to those who provided their recommendations and their insight. Now it's time to print those models I have downloaded and enjoy the details and colors.
