Just to throw in two cents about rivets, in model railroading, there are decals available for simulating raised rivets. For railroad equipment they would be large round headed iron, like that used on buildings and bridges. One place that carries the rivet decals is Micro-Mark - The Small Tools Specialists. I had to search under decal to find them.
Silly question, when did smooth flat head countersunk rivets come into use?
