also before burnishing lightly sand/bevel the squarish edges of the paper . also preglue the area with a thinned pva glue, both sides, let it dry. then final glue the edges together. use this thinned and final glue sparingly. if it gets further down the wing you run the risk of gluing more than the tips and get that flat wing effect you are trying to avoid.
