Indeed the sails of GE were incompatible with the funnels of the boilers
In fact, the ship suffered the explosion of one of the boilers, possibly by interference of the funnel number 4 with the knife sail of that mast (4th), perhaps the worst located of all.
In this photo, you can see that the 4th funnel is missing.
Original design, but only 2º and 3º masts, had yards, and only eight dinghys by each side
