X-Acto are rubbish here as well and also cost a fortune..
I use Olfa blades for general cutting (sharpening them as I go along). Blade lasts me about a year. Resharpen each model I do - take about a minute.
For intricate cutting, I have bought scalpel blades (#11), and these fit nicely in one of my Olfa knives - I have a couple as you can buy a knife with a pack of 20 blades and the price is not really different to a refill pack! I have found them cheaper in craft shops than in hobby shops.

Fizbi - those sharpeners are good - I have similar Lansky one. Never tried on the modeling blades, but will give a bash now and see......
