Here are the final photos of the finished model.

Some mistakes are more visible than others. But overall it looks fine.

Most of all: the primary goal was achieved, and it was to finish it.

Very complex model. Not for beginners. But fun to build sometimes because it
leaves room for creativity and for the application of different techniques.

I understand there is a laser cut set for the truss and wing ribs, as well as
a photo-ecthed set for the cockpit and wheels. All from GPM themselves.

I'm sure that would help a lot to get even more precise and best-looking parts.

I probably would have enjoyed a lot more, and would have achieved a
better result if this was made at a bigger size (1:16 probably). But I really doubt
I will build this plane ever again.

Brief summary:

Model: Bleriot XI
Scale: 1:33
Kit: GPM #239 (10-2005)

When I got the kit I wrote to GPM asking for English instructions. They kindly replied
with a file containing the English text of the instructions. That is very useful
if you are planning to build this kit.

Movable parts:
  • Wheels (only rotation, no steering, no suspension).
  • Propeller.
  • Elevators (not connected to controls)
  • Rudder (connected by threads to control pedals)

Wood parts:
  • Truss, replacing original cardstock parts.
  • Cylinders of the engine.

Rigging:
  • Silver embroidery thread.

Most of the internal structure of wings and rudder used the original parts of the kit.
But the wing and rudder skins were replaced with a lighter textured paper.

Landing gear, front frame and engine made using mostly the original parts of the kit.
But painted over with Revell Aqua Color paints.

Propeller was built using only the kit's parts, layered, soaked in CA, sanded,
and painted with markers. Coated with matte transparent Revell Aqua Color paint.

Thanks a lot to all the people who have commented in this thread.

I know it is not perfect. It could have been much better. There are some
ugly details (like that wing that drooped, the many CA stains on the skin,
and the several wrinkles).

But I really enjoyed completing, and attempting things I had never tried before.

Until next time.

Thank you!
