It is. Goods handing was"advanced" back then, with most small depots having cranes.
Some goods vans had sliding partitions so smaller loads could be segregated, or separated and secured.
They even used to run container wagons with container (open and closed) traffic - the containers were then (as today) transferred to trucks or wagons for delivery to their destinations.
I am constantly surprised as I discover how the railways then operated and what they did!
