I have always used PVA white wood glue. Large pots available from the DIY stores. Works fine. I was a big fan of Aleenes tacky clear gel glue. I used it for the more tricky parts, to be able to adjust after glueing. But it got too thick and snotty to use properly so I went out to buy some new. The hobby shop didn't have it. I bought Aleenes Tacky glue (the white stuff in the gold bottle) and I loved it immediately. It somehow is better than just the old wood glue. I use it in all my builds now. But I do really miss my clear gel.
