For nice cards and gifts that are not as expensive (nor as elaborate) as one of or Lisa's bespoke creations, search for "kirigami" on the web and on this site (http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/667557-post418.html, for a start) for pieces you can make yourself or purchase.
Kirigami is an example of snowballing cultural appropriation, it seems to have originated in China, was developed in Japan, and is now very popular in Vietnam.
