Ted: your idea is also very interesting the "dents" would be real, instead of making it graphically !
In one of my first models, I made incidentally "dents" in the hull, because I only pressed the glued hull on the frames, which showed the frames, instead of having a smooth hull. So maybe it is an idea to make a kind of honeycomb structure of frames, before "plating" it.
