I think what he was trying to avoid was buying his own paper. I've had the same issues with folding laminated parts, you just need to find a somewhat flexible glue for laminating, or just be careful when it comes to folding, just kind of gently massage the part into shape, if that doesn't sound too weird.
I find most of my delamination issues come when trying to roll tubes or curves, usually it's an easy fix to just glue the separated parts back together.
