There were 100 chassis built for the A7V committee - only 20 were completed with armoured shells as tanks - most of the remainder (57 or so) were completed as tracked transporters. These were deployed from December 1917 on the Western Front. However, they saw little use since their fuel consumption was very high compared to wheeled trucks and the German Army was very short of fuel in 1918.
