I use a wood dowel ( usually 3/8 inch dia / or 3-4 mm dia ) inserted to the model belly and glued in place. The other end is sharpened and then inserted into a spiral wall plug ( you get it at a hardware store ).
use any size that is appropriate.
-insert the plug into the wall using a screw driver
-insert with a rotation motion the wood dowel into the plug ( this instead of a screw )
-insert the model onto the free end of the dowel ( cut to desired length ) and add a little glue to keep in position if needed.
