The two were developed for the interception role.That of the Sabre dog was of intercepting Russian bombers carrying nuclear bombs and the Cutlass as a Carrier interceptor with radar guided Sparrow missiles.
In order to achieve good response each was equipped with afterburner engines. J47 with AB with 3.4 ton thrust for the Sabre and 5.4 ton combined for the two J46 of the Cutlass. Performance were close as mach 0.94 on the deck for both and climb between 12000 for the Sabre dog to 14500 for the Cutlass. The F-86D range was limited for 550 km while the Cutlass up to 1500 km but here again the time of using afterburners dictated much about how long the range will be.
The Sabre dog only carried 24 rockets in a special elevator below the front belly and no guns !
The Cutlass was equipped with 4 x20 mm guns and a belly 24 rocket external pack beside 4 Sparrow missiles from first generation that were beam riding.
The Cutlass could take of with 2.5 tons of load !
The carrier of both was short as new fighters came in the Supersonic age of Aviation.
The Sabre dog was replaced by the F-100 Super Sabre and F-102 Delta Dagger while the Cutlass by the Crusader and Skyhawk.
The Cutlass is from WHM Germany and was built 5 years ago . In order to make it more close to the real one I added a full cockpit compartment and transparent canopy.
