I still have the same problem when i make the planes rigging. But if you search on the web with the right keywords you will find 2D views, designs, plans and photos... that will help you. This is what I do for each of the models I build.
In fact, the real complexity is to get a rigging with taut thread without deform the parts or the model. I try to use a minimum of thread but with a maximum lenght , even if I have to cross the fuselage of the planes, in order to have a good tension on the lengths and also to avoid as many knots as possible at the location of junctions. Hope that will help you.
