In fact the Ki-36 was designed to be an aircraft that operated in conjunction with the Ki-51 on the front line. A few thousand were produced and many survived the war unlike other Japanese planes being used by the French in Indochina, Indonesia, Thailand and in the Air Force museum of this country there is a beautiful preserved example of the training variant Ki-55.
