My thoughts on using this tool.
If you’re used to freehand circle cutting the Thinnerline tool seems to be a strange animal. It’s not intuitive and the design and the manner in which it is used hides most of the printed circle you’re trying to cut! It’s difficult to see the knife edge as it cuts and if you try to you’re likely to shift the cutter and ruin the piece! Trust therefore plays a part in using this tool.
The one thing I learned early on was to make certain the etched surface of the centring disc faces the paper!
The mm diameter scale is hard to read so I always cut several test discs on plain paper to check dimensions.
Like any precision instrument you have to be both patient and precise.
Cutting freehand, if done with care, can produce similar results, but not with the speed and reproducible results you can achieve with this tool.
It’s not the only tool I employ to cut circles/discs but the Thinnerline has become an important part of my armamentarium.
