Cockpit Chronicles

Goodday gents,

Thank you very much for your responses, good to have you all aboard!

The build continues with the cramped and packed cockpit. There is no floorboard to give the build-up any stability and basically the former ribs have to be installed on the right side of the cockpit wall, along with the many other parts yet to come.
I have been trying to build in numerical order as much as possible and also bothered to translate the building instructions for the cockpit area. No real surprises in the text, it's all pretty standard.

The oxygen and air cylinders are tightly rolled up tubes around a piece of 0.3mm steel wire. The tubes need to be rounded at the ends with sandpaper so don't glue the metal yet to the paper. It has to be pulled out after rolling and only put back and glued after rounding the heads. It would have been easier had the paper already been pre-shaped, so that when you roll the tube, the form of the heads appears along as you roll. Pretty much like how Ricardo prepares tires in his builds: Long elliptically shaped stretches of paper rolled up tightly.

The other pictures show the rudder pedal details.

I must say, after building a number of birds it takes a bit of adaptation of the mind to get used again to small parts, details and high level of concentration. Still gaining momentum!

Regards,
Erik
