I would not worry too much if you get mistakes with Canon models - I have had quite a few issues with Canon models I have made recently. The main issue I think is that a lot (in my opinion) actually need different thicknesses of paper in the one kit, but they suggest one thickness regardless! I find myself delaminating a lot sometimes. In the current model, I am busy with, I am cutting off parts already made and glued to replace them with parts of a smaller thickness - to solve fit issues.
I have also found parts that are dimensionally incorrect (as anyone who has built the "Toy Train" can probably attest. Strange as their trains are actually usually great quality.
Either way, carry on - all the fixes are part of the fun sometimes, and I look forward also to your finished result!
