The first pic doesn't show the Balzac V but one of the 2 Mirage IIIV prototypes that came later and were bigger.
The Balzac V 001 was rebuilt from the original Mirage III-001 prototype, already nicknamed Balzac, the one was that used the wings from the unfinished Mirage II. Even before the VTOL conversion, that Mirage III-001 was already pretty different from the pre-production aircraft (the 10 Mirage IIIA, from A-01 to A-10).
It was named Balzac because of its serial number. "Balzac 0001" was the phone number of a famous advertising company showing commercials in movie theaters (to this day! Jean Mineur became Mediavision but their phone number still ends in 00 01).
