This is an interesting approach...
From my (designer) point of view I see it as follows:
The large model will ask for extremely huge amount of details. And especially with such iconic model the fans could be very picky. That could mean that the design process might get too long...
And then if you would like to scale it down ... would these small details still be executable ?
