if you want to print something after a while, run a test print or cleaning cycle
the printer tends to use more ink during start up to "charge" the print heads, when the printer is on, the heads are primed for that print job to start.
Laser printers do not suffer from the ink/toner wasting when starting up, but they do need time to warm up, and make sure the fuser is clean.
