Apparently Viggens were one of the few aircraft able to get a missile lock on SR-71s by approaching them head-on rather than from behind. They also protected one SR-71 from the Russians in 1987 when one of its engines had exploded and needed to fly at low alitude and speed to get to West Germany.

As an aside, I owned a Saab Model 96. It had a three cylinder two-stroke engine with a blistering 37 horsepower. Not easy to keep the proper gasoline-oil ratio as there were no gas stations in New York that had that fuel mixture at the pump (as they did in Europe), and the car did not have oil injection.
