The Ford tri-motor. Another of the wonderful planes used by the Scadta. This aircraft allowed a large movement of passengers between large cities.
Peter Paul von Bauer tried to buy these planes from Ford, but it was at that moment that Juan Trippe blocked him. The power of Juan Trippe of Pan American, closed all the doors, by prohibiting Ford from negotiating with Scadta.
This was one of the main reasons why Peter Paul von Bauer was forced in 1929 to enter into negotiations with Pan American Airways, culminating in the sale of his majority stake in Scadta to Pan American in 1932.
Already having acquired this partition in Scadta, Juan Trippe began to transfer some of the Ford Tri-motor from him to the Scadta.
Two Ford 5-AT Tri-Motor passenger planes were destroyed in a collision at Medellín-Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport (EOH), Colombia. Seventeen occupants were killed.
Tri-Motor F-31, operated by SACO, swung off the runway during takeoff run and struck a SCADTA Ford Tri-Motor, registered C-31 that was taxiing towards the runway. Both aircraft caught fire. All seven on board the SCADTA plane were killed. Ten of 13 occupants of the SACO plane were killed.
Among those killed on the SACO plane were: Capt Ernesto Samper Mendoza (pilot), Carlos Gardel (47, singer, actor), and Alfredo Le Pera (35, lyricist).
