It also will work if you double layer glue the cardstock, put packaging tape on both sides if you want a gloss look.
I had trouble with the gear as well. The verticle shaft wants to wobble from left to right. There are 2 tiny pieces in the pattern I cannot figure out where they go and I suspect they are the stabalizer for the gear mechanism. Yours looks great.
