When I want a glossy finish I use the cheapest gloss photo paper I can find.
Walmart sells PEN+GEAR photo paper, 50, 8.5" x 11" at 8.5 mil for $10.50.
It's thin, dry's fast, and doesn't crack.
The few models I've done with it turned out fine.
