Cute boat indeed. Wow, do I see hatches in the deck? Do they open?

As for the engine, there is one available for download:

But I can't tell if this is the style you are looking for.

Unexpected new ideas

Thanks Micro! Nice model of an engine used for example in Mig-15 (one of my favourites). I wasn't clear stating what I was looking for - originally I figured I could do with a good afterburner end of the engine but this rouse some new ideas. We'll see where this is going...

Welcome aboard ninja_doc, I'm glad you like what you see.

Mirco, what a wonderful model that Klimov VK-1 is! Thanks a million for the link. I'm going to use that and I'm building it at the moment. I scaled it down to 70% of it's original size and it seems to fit perfectly to the engine bay.

By the way who is the designer of the model - would like to give him/her the credit. I followed the link to a Chechz modeling site but couldn't figure out who made it. Take a look at the site if your not familiar with it, loads of nice models there - to look and to download.

Studying the subject (the engine and it's history) I came across some funny uses of the old jet engines - a snowblower. So why not for my flying boat too.

Best Regards,

Tappi

The engine

I got it done. Pleasant build and a lot of parts so it took some time too hence the two day silence in reposting. I added few bits of my own to the build and continue doing so. I'd like to show fuel lines and some electrical wiring too.

Next step is to make so support structure for it. When that's ready I'll show the engine with the vessel.

Scaling the model down to 70% of it's original size took me somewhere near 1/45 and that is the about scale I've been holding in my mind (if I managed to get the maths right - please correct if not right).

Once again thanks Mirco - would this by any chance be your model?

Best Regards,

Tappi

Thanks Pat. I had to test the engine on the boat too (that piece of cardboard is a temporary support). The scale looks right but the surroundings are a bit naked still. More greeble needed!

Till tomorrow friends and happy Advent time to all.

Why not put 2 smaller jet engines there (like those on a Buzzbomb?), that are on a sort of pivot like the screws on modern tugboats?

Thanks Leif and glad to see you visiting the thread. I own much to the original artist but I'm trying to add some spices to the soup myself.
Legion - that was pretty much the original idea and would have been a viable solution too. But since Mirco introduced the Klimov engine I thought that would fit perfectly to the consept of this vessel. Plus I now love the separate combustion chambers and the detailed look of this blower.

Thumbs up

Hi there!

WOW! what a build! I am amazed! But on the other hand, I well know how amazing and skilled modeler you are, Tappi!

Still this is "uskomatonta" (unbelievable)!

I am sure you will find out how to fill the empty space with some wires, extra parts for the functionality of the engine (maybe some fuel pump or an injector) etc. etc... Maybe also some stray cloth or whateverdoesnotbelongthere...

And yes, your math is correct! Downscaling 1:32 to 70% should be about 1:45 or 1:46.

WOW! I am looking forward to seeing more!

Rgds,
Radek

PS:How bout a Glögi at the old market?
