TARDIS by rocketmantan

download the model here

i've been in search of a good TARDIS model for a while. unfortunately almost everything i could find was a painted box, not much detailing. so i was excited when Bryan announced he was designing a detailed TARDIS.

i printed at 90% scale. the build was quick. i tried to do the model justice but i'm afraid it didn't turn out so well. with many details on the model, the issue of 'white edges' becomes very apparent. also, reinforcing the walls would be a good idea - i have some concave walls.

it seems like the paper thickness wasn't taken into account and with all those layers adding up the fit is seriously off. i don't know. maybe i didn't figure it out.

Bryan, if you can iron-out the paper-thickness issue, i'd be glad to build this all over again. thanks for designing it.

You might want to try the TARDIS model from Mike Hungerford

thanks, Joe, i've seen it - it was a prime candidate before Bryan draw his one. i like the columns in it but the door panels were better in Bryan's. maybe someone can combine.

This is by no means a criticism because I think this model is excellent...but I'd like to see a more realistic texture on it as well. I'm learning how all of this works and will happily give it a shot when I know what I'm doing. Apart from that, I really love the design. Thanks for sharing it.

Can you tell me how tall this model is and what scale, if known?
I would like to get a TARDIS in 1/8 scale to go with two Dalek plastic model kits I built years ago.
Thanks for any information, Petseal

thanks, Fiver. looking forward to your build.

Petseal, this one is about 6in/15cm tall - base to lamp-cap, as i mentioned above printed at 90%. scale-wise i dont know - you might want to ask Bryan, here's the original build-thread - Yet another TARDIS

i'm also thinking of giving a shot to Mike's model after all .. see how it turns out.

Based on the dimensions given it looks to be around 1/16 scale.

This is the Mike Hungerford's TARDIS I made for my cousin last year.
To add to the front panels I printed 2 copys and cut out the windows and panels to help show them off more. I have downloaded rocketmantan model and will be building it soon.

Well, all I can say is that you've done an EXCELLENT job with my model. Sorry about the many flaws that came with it, though. I thought I'd fixed them with the test build, but I've always sucked at building, so it's not surprising that the paper thickness issues slipped through the cracks.

Nevertheless, you did a great job of fixing them yourself!
