WH40K Griffon
This will be my second War Hammer vehicle build. I really enjoyed my modelling experience with the Scylla (thread elsewhere in this forum), so I thought I'd tackle another.
The Griffon is a self propelled mortar. The firing bed is open and, besides the cannon, the model also features a nicely detailed gunner's position with a stool and a control panel. As usual, I did a bit of a recolor using Photoshop - some mottled texturing with the sponge tool, and a bit of shading. I also redrew all the rivets for a more 3D look. The first couple of photos are of the completed basic hull. I reinforced the hull bottom and the firing bed with thin corrugated cardboard. The layered hatches were prepared and glued in place before the hull was assembled. I discovered a design flaw on the inside panel of the left hand track guide. As you can see in the first two photos, the front of the hull isn't symmetrical. But, as designed, the left hand inside panel is a mirror image of the right hand inside panel. This wouldn't do at all, so I redrew it to match the dimensions of the left hull side (picture 3). The original is on the left, corrected part on the right. That's it for now, but more to follow soon.

Thanks, fellas. I'm almost done with the right side - just need to cut out, edge color, and glue the individual treads onto the caterpillar. The caterpillar wound up being about a half a link short, but I think that's because I laminated it to 0.5mm cardboard for a better look. The filler piece was added at the rear, down low, so I doubt it'll be noticeable. I'll space out each of the last half dozen bottom treads just a bit to disguise it. It's looking awesome! Can't wait to show it off.

The right side is finished and has been attached to the hull. This sub-assembly requires lots of layering onto 0.5mm and 1mm cardboard, which was murder on the blades. I have two razor knives going - one exclusively for card stock, and the other one to hack through the heavy stuff. Five or even six passes is often needed to complete the cut.
I found that the total tread count supplied in the kit is short by sixteen pieces. I've brought them up to the required number. The alignment of the red and white stripes could be better, but I'm making the necessary corrections to the recolor as I go along. The Imperial Eagle is a custom addition: adds some pizzazz, I think. I'll be starting on the left side shortly.

This is looking so good - dare I say another build that looks more pl****c than card. Will it be a stand alone model or wil it be displayed on a diorama ?
