Valley Forge Project Torch to Pass

I am cleaning up past projects. One that I put much research and prelim cad work into was Valley Forge, from Silent Running. I want to see this project come to life, in any scale. I am going to play in the real space models for awhile, and would like to pas the torch to someone. If no one is interested I will revisit it in the fall.

Great movie, and a really awesome ship. Don't know how it'll be pulled of in paper though. All those framing members are real thin. Would look cool though. I'll think it over. If I don't run off and start modeling the Cygnus, I might give it a shot.

You could perhaps use some sort of rod/tubing for the metal frame. Evergreen and Plastruct both make plastic rod that wouldn't weight much that might be of use.

I know that, generally speaking, papermodels don't include other mediums, but that's one potential alternative.

I really would like to see this one happen!

This and a life like Robby the Robot are (2) projects that need to be done in paper. As for the Cygnus, well that would be great too. I have research on them all. I think that the torch needs to be picked up if there are any takers. I am busy trying to clean up some older projects now. I would not be upset if someone ran with the work I have so far. The mixed media ideas are great, but I think these projects can be done with card, (and a little engineering).

The Desert Domes website has some calculators that help in figuring out the length of the sides of the triangles used to make up geodesic domes. It might be useful in laying out the greenhouse domes on the Valley Forge.

I have used those calculators to make various size domes out of paper, cardstock, and corrugated cardboard. Works great.

How do you get this model? The 2001 pod looks nice too, but how do you download?

Surfduke, if you have any research materials on Cygnus that are beyond movie clips please forward along to me if you like. (thomas dot harrell at gmail dot com- 10MB limit)

I'll put it in my "will get around to it" file. Likely to be a couple models that are ahead of it, but I really want a Cygnus. I intend to do slight mixed media on it... I think I'll borrow Gil's aluminum foil lamination method for the outside material, cut all the frames and add mylar film inside, and light the entire shebang with yellow LEDs. In order to be able to actually cut the frames, it's gonna be a bigger model.
