Space Battleship by Wayne McLoughlin

I just picked this up from Ebay. Does anyone have any experience with these? It looks like McLoughlin created three books. The pieces are pre-punched but not scored and unfortunately this copy reeks of mothballs. :(

But it looks like it'll be a fun, and huge final model.

I would scan the pages and save the book. Unless you picked it up really cheap and bought another copy

I'll definitely scan it but probably build the actual model as well. It smells so strongly of moth balls that I don't want it pervading my other books.

I have a group of youth building this in one of my centers. Its a sister kit to the Space Freighter, which is also being built.

Most McLoughlin kits are very well designed and have pretty good fit. With some mods, they can be even better.

And yes, scan and save. These are getting more difficult to find.

Looks more like a space fighter to me, but distances in space are so tricky to guess....

Freighter woes from online sale....

I just repurchased the Space Freighter this week to replace the one damaged in flood and the one I donated to my youth at a local group home. This is what was sent!!!

Amazon's customer service department is MIA and not answering calls.

The vendor who sold it describe dit as in good shape.

I think your Space Fighter is in much better shape than this!

How's your build coming? Any build pics?

McLoughlin Books

I have the Space Fighter, The Space Freighter, and a Build Your Own Space Shuttle books. Definitely scan and keep the originals. I have only recently bought an 11" x 17" (A2 size) large format Epson printer/scanner, specifically for my Mcloughlin, Alan Rose, and other classic book kits.

The kits are pretty good as far as build quality and engineering goes, especially the Space Shuttle book. Print and paper quality are exceptional. What I love about the subject matter is the 1970's vision of future spacecraft (beyond the Shuttle orbiter). Their designs are very reminiscent of Chris Foss's ship designs in his sci-fi paintings from the 60's and 70's. The future sure ain't what it used to be....

The color pallets are extremely vibrant. I'm still amazed that the prototyping and layout of the pages came from a time when all that was done manually and executed in airbrush on an illustration board, not a computer screen.

Please do post build pics!
