K-9 Not Papercraft, . . .

Dave Everett's PDFs [Skippy's Labbook]

This site has plans for making a life-sized K-9 from 3mm HIPS, High Impact Polystyrene.

I'm planning on trying to use foam board instead. Will probably need to reinforce the head-neck joint and probably the base as well but I'll see how that goes.

These could also probably be used for a papercraft version if anyone wants to try that.

Cheers,

John Gay

So I got started on this build. I know it's not really papercraft, but please bare with me.
So I really worked on the body and head simultaneously, but I'll split them out here.

This is the side view of the start of the head framework.

And front view of the same.
The head has quite a few curves, so this framework is for internal support before the outer sheets are added.

Now I've added the face and nose section. Again, this is just internal support. The actual face gets attached to a separate piece that slide into the top. Unfortunately, the actual nose isn't in the plans I have, so I'll need to 'get creative'

And this is after I 'skinned' the head with cardstock. it's not nearly as strong as my regular papercraft. I may need to resin coat it for strength. But that will be much later.

This is as far as I've completed on the head. The actual face needs to be frosted and red acrylic as it will be illuminated from behind.

Now for the body.

This is the side panel insert section. the other side only has half of this because there is a removeable door that includes the top section of this insert.

Here you can see the lower part of the body complete.

And this is the rest of the body finished.
There is a large door that goes on his right side. The small opening on his right is for a monitor. I need to find something that will fit, and probably a Raspberry Pi Zero to drive it. I'll need to look up a few episodes to see what is displayed there.

I'll need to see just how heavy he turns out to be to figure out just how much power he'll need to move. I'm hoping that using Foam Board and card stock will let me save on the motors.

But that's all for now.

Cheers,

John Gay
