I built the kit up, used small washers and magnets to connect the two parts. That way it can be handled without falling apart, but can be easily split to see the interior detail. Nice job on the build, Sakrison. Looks liked you nailed the retractable landing gear.

And it was definitely worth it. Doing it again, I would skip the interior. You can't really see it, and making the "lid" removeable would be a nightmare. Build the red version of the cockpit but skip the passenger cabin.

I also think enlarging it made a big difference. 1/76 scale meant the largest parts still fit on a legal-size card. Or you could just take to a print shop and have it run on 11x17. It would be awesome in 1/50 or 1/33! (Oh boy, what have I just talked myself into?!)

The landing gear is not strong enough to support the shuttle. There are four short clear plastic rods tucked in among the prime movers. I'll bet you didn't see them in the photos.

Thanks! I may do that at some point. My thinking in looking over the parts was to skip the interior because a) it’s a heck of a lot of work and b) I doubted you’d see any of it once done. I guess you proved that.

And yeah, I didn’t see your plastic rods. Great solution. I did wonder about the strength of the landing legs, particularly if you make them retractable. (And for that matter, I always wondered why Aries had retractable landing legs to begin with. There’s no need for them.)

I’ll have to look through my stash, though. My version of the model may still be sitting in storage back in the U.S., and I don’t have the pages on my iPad.

Once I finally get my modeling tools unpacked, I have to do a unique X-15 repaint I’ve been planning on doing for about six months….
