Aries 1B from Uhu02

Enlarged from 1/100 to 1/76 scale, diameter about 6" -- challenging build but worth it -- on my to-build list for a long time

I like that the image is in black and white. Makes it more realistic.

In fact, those are all full-color images.

Looks great.

The scene in the movie when it is on the landing pad and being lowered below the surface of the Moon makes it look like a squat being with a scowling face.

Excellent job! That’s one I’ve wanted to do for ages but have never got up the nerve to do it.

It's fussy, the instructions aren't always clear, and it made sense to laminate parts that Uhu didn't suggest. But it was less challenging than I expected. Uhu has done a very good job designing the kit (as usual).

And it was definitely worth it. Doing it again, I would skip the interior. You can't really see it, and making the "lid" removeable would be a nightmare. Build the red version of the cockpit but skip the passenger cabin.

I also think enlarging it made a big difference. 1/76 scale meant the largest parts still fit on a legal-size card. Or you could just take to a print shop and have it run on 11x17. It would be awesome in 1/50 or 1/33! (Oh boy, what have I just talked myself into?!)

The landing gear is not strong enough to support the shuttle. There are four short clear plastic rods tucked in among the prime movers. I'll bet you didn't see them in the photos.

If you decide to screw up your courage and build it, PM me. I'm happy to help.

Uhu's kits are amazing in detail and marvelously replicate the "real thing". (Of course, in this case I mean "real thing" in the movie). You did a TERRIFIC job building this!

Best regards,
Kurt

Very nice build of what I am sure was a difficult model.

Not as difficult as it looks, or as difficult as I thought it would be--pretty straight forward, actually. I chalk that up to an excellent design by Uhu02.
The kit has a lot fewer greeblies* than most Halinski kits.

*greebly, n.: any tiny part that disappears when you sneeze or that falls off your workbench and lands under the couch in the next room.
