U.S.S.Enterprise refit project
Hello,
this is another project i want to try. I planned this like an evolution of well known paper model from Sunichi Makino. It is my first big model projected in 3d software ( sketch up ) Today i make complete rough 3d model - prepared for unfold in pepakura, then colors in Corel and then betatest. Scale is 1:450 or 1:650 -still i dont know. Details like the photon tubes, tractor beam, phasers and others come after the basic construction is completed. Colors on 3d model is only for orientation. |

Wah Hoo!!! really awsome job!. Am looking forward to this one a lot, and the bigger the better. Don't forget to do one unmarked, but colored, for those of us that like to kitbash:D Always enjoy your work. Keep it up.

I like what I'm seeing so far. One hopefully constructive criticism: one of the failings of Shunichi's design was the squared-off nacelles, and it seems yours aren't quite as rounded as the original design. See below:
The nacelle is rounded from the side and the top, requiring a compound curve. It's a bit complex to do, but well worth it if you can pull it off. Also, the pylon attaches to the nacelle right in the edge of the lowest fairing - your model shows it connected higher. Here's an example on my Shunichi modified model: Even if you leave it as-is, it looks great. If you want to really go above and beyond, the nacelles would really take the cake. Thanks again for your work on this. Can't wait to build her.

Agreed... I've done the Shunichi model myself and my one complaint was the boxy and simplistic nacelles. The rest of the model is so superbly done that the nacelles felt... tacked on.
Looking forward to seeing this one!

Sweet
I would be willing to beta test this model. I've been waiting for someone to tackle this for a while now. I was just about ready to dust of my 3D Studio MAX skills as no one wanted to tackle it.
I'm currently working on a Klingon TMP D7 to hang in front of this model when you release it. Then I'll figure out how to suspend a red LED in mid-air to simulate a photon torpedo. :D |

Was there actually a difference in the model used for either of those ships other than small color differences in the photon tubes and impulse engines (and of course the registry)?
