I Thought this was a great film. I didn't see much 'hype' about it in the UK and it wasn't awash with obvious CGI.

At one or two points in the film, Gerty has to move between two rooms through the door-locks. There is some sort of mini-lock at the top of the door, that the support passes through. The model could probably be mounted in a doorway, as it passes through:

I'm going to use this subject as a project to learn Sketchup on. Can anybody help me out with some reference photos? Does anybody know if there are any plans for an Art of Moon book?

This movie leant itself to old school style of special effects. Couldn't have been done another way. Moved kinda slow, but was still a good solid film. I think the mining rig would make a good model, too.

Jackson,
At this site (Gavin Rothery's Portfolio- Portfolio) there is a ZIP folder of hi-res images available of Gerty. Nothing that's like a three-view or anything, which makes it somewhat more difficult.

A damn good film... just saw it this past weekend with the wife.

I'm lucky, she actually enjoys sci-fi. Well, since I've been educating her on what good sci-fi is, anyway.

I'd rate MOON right up there with Silent Running, 2001 and Day The Earth Stood Still. Definately top 10 material. Just goes to prove you can still do old-school sci-fi and do it without a multi billion dollar budget.

I'd love to see some models from this film!

haha Silent Running!
...just watched that, again, just before New Years!!
- let my daughter see it (shes 17 - and she is a big fan of just about everything I like!)

didn't hold up quite as well as I remembered, but still a great film!
(although I could live without the musical interlude part in the middle! lol)

oops sorry, here comes a sidetrack again! lol

Moon

Moon
Moon

there...back on track again!

Ugh... yeah, you know I had forgotten about the Joan Byez (sp?) interlude and cheesy 70's soundtrack...

Hmmm. Wonder if there's a DVD re-cut edition with better music? :D
