I was the same way. Watched a few episodes on Fox and thought "What the H....?" Then a friend drug me to see the movie. Now they rank amongst my favorite shows.

Wow! I like to see the mechanical bits, struts, hydrolic pistons and things. Stuff like that often gets left off for simplicity sake. But you are applying a great attention to detail that's making my mouth drop.
Question: Are you building this in paper as you go, or is it all still in software until you're done? how do you test the components? I've never designed a paper model before, always worked with plastic till I discovered the world of paper a couple years ago. |

Time to stand up on our own feet:
The legs still need more engineering and tinkering, the yellow lines are just a draft. If everything goes smooth, they will really retract (okay, they won't - actually you just swap "deployed" legs for the "retracted" ones :p). -> Daedalus: No paper so far, just electrons. Unfolding will take place when the virtual model is complete and I see everything fit together. I plan to use the same sequence as I did with the shuttle: virtual model, unfold, building first prototype, fixing bugs, drafting texture outlines, redrawing them on unfolded parts in computer, adding details, building second prototype, some more fixing and testing as needed, texturing, writing/drawing instructions and release. Maybe I will have to add a "removing excessive unbuildable details" step this time :D. Designing models is fun. Maybe even more than building them . See you next week.

Time for a newb to chime in.
Mirco, this is an excellent piece of work, and I wish you all the best for the completion of it, it's nice to see the process of the whole concept to model in action. Anyone out there looking for a River anime pepekura, all I can say is, If he allows it, try modding UHU02s' Tinkerbell, should give right sort of manga dimensions. Back to the AG debate, concerning Bab5, Gravity Control was gifted to the humans late in the 3rd series, I think, so the non rotating command structures have to be put down to "Ooopsie!", unless someones got a better idea. Andre Bormanis (Star Trek Script Science Advisor) gets a call: "How do the Heisenberg Compensators work?" "Very Well, thank you!"

Maybe there will even be space for the med bay...

Have you guys seen the new Serenity posters QMX is putting out. They are cut-away designs that are done by one of the Star Wars cut-away artists. Supposedly done over a period of three years. Four cut-aways for $30 or $40. Set includes two views of Serenity, one of the shuttles and one of the mule. Really nice for the price.

Sorry, no progress this week. But at least we found a lot of mushrooms on Saturday :p. I'm figuring out bearings and gears for the gravity rotor. It is going to consist of three pulley-like wheels on a circular rail, several rubber band transmissions and an electric motor. Maybe even the med bay will fit inside . Delivering electricity for the lighting will be the trickier part...

Did I tell you the rotor will rotate?
(imagine two rubber bands to see the whole image ) Sorry for the delay, other projects jumped in for a while...
