Okay. Here is the next section I am working on. The Engine section.
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-00.jpg Per the instructions, I cut the main parts out and glued them together. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-01.jpg After I got those two parts glued together I started on the next sheet. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-02.jpg These parts are going to be the indented detail that make the trench along the middle of the engines. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-03.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-04.jpg They are a little tricky to glue but not too bad. Mostly just long areas to glue. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-05.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-06.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-08.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-09.jpg From behind. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-07.jpg Once that was finished the instructions say to work on the engine exhausts. I sprayed these with Gloss Finish to give it a bit more of a powered up look. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-10.jpg So far these are the biggest challenge (for me at least) because they require tiny tabs to be folded into a small ‘indentation’. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-11.jpg Finished one. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-12.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-13.jpg Something that kinda bothered me a bit is there is beautiful detail for the light speed engines, but no such detail for the sub-light engine. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-14.jpg So I decided to add my own by adding three different shades of red. I traced the shape of the sub-light engine onto a piece of regular paper, colored it then glued it onto a blank sheet of card stock. That way it would be on a white background instead of the dark gray of the original piece. Once it had dried, I glued it to the actual piece. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-15.jpg Cut it out. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-16.jpg And added it to the rest of the finished Engine Exhausts. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-17.jpg Next came the Housing. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-18.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-19.jpg With the added exhausts. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-20.jpg Finally I needed to do the Engine Brace. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-21.jpg It says to fold the tabs 90 degrees. However, most of the tabs need to be folded like that. So I don’t know exactly what he meant by that, but I did my best by folding them not 180 degrees and then back to 90 to make it as flat as possible. I just folded as close to 90 as possible and left it alone for it to retain strength. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-22.jpg Placed on the rear Housing. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-24.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-25.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../Engine-26.jpg That is all for now. I shall continue folding away. Cheers. Nikita

I test built this kit during its development and said much the same to Gearz. Probably needs a picture in the instructions for clarity, but what you've done is correct. One of these days I have to build one for myself. I gave my test build of the final version to a friend of mine, and never did get around to building one for myself. I really like the improvements you made to the sublight engine. Definitely lifts it up a notch. Keep up the good work, Steve |

coming along nicely! If I might make a suggestion - color your edges after cutting. Black edges look better than the white edges. Just need to be careful about it as you dont want the color to bleed either. I found some great markers at an art shop (forget the brand) that have different gray densities. They blled like crazy though even with a slight pause. I think I have the best luck overall with drumroll please..... sharpies!

Thanks gang.
I have a generic Sharpie and tested it on one of the printed parts and it bled right onto the pattern. So I didn't do that again. However, since it was a black ink--if you can find the bleed--it looks like weathering/damage. I have tried to use a pencil as the color of the graphite is pretty close to the base color of the ship. But, I have so far tried to add the "color" after I have glued the part on. Which, as you know, makes it non-conducive to any form of color adhesion. :o So I should probably be adding the pencil color before I glue things together--duh. Thok, you are correct. The model does come with many names, including 4 blank ones to add your own names with info as to what the font used is (nice touch). However, for the moment, since this is my first attempt at building a paper model, I will probably just use one of the pre-printed ones. And, since this is going to be a kitbash, I am probably going to go with Valiant. Sounds like a good name for a destroyer. :p I hope to have some more posted soon. Cheers. Nikita

awsome i have always liked knowing what was going on in the backgrounds of stroies too. (thats probably why most of my Ster Trek models are NOT Enterprise)i was always the kind that wondered what the rest of the fleet was doing.

I only learned this last week but if you spray both sides of your parts sheets with a spray like Krylon, it will prevent the bleed through when edging and colouring reverse sides...

Or just use that marker for something else until you deplete it a bit - the bleeding eventually stops.
BTW, water-based markers bleed much less than alcohol-based ones. Nice work so far.

Thanks Thok.
Actually, Vipers in scale with this model would be about 1/4200 scale +/-. Really tiny in paper. lol. Sorry for a lack of posts lately. I have been going through some stuff. One of the things I was going through was the fact that I stopped enjoying the build because I was taking pictures of every step of the process. It became overwhelming, and unenjoyable. I was not having fun building it anymore. So I decided to stop taking those pics and wait until I was finished with her. Since doing that, I have been having fun.:D Now, I am very nearly finished. So I will have pictures of the completed build soon. Sorry 'bout that. Cheers. Nikita
