Very interesting discussions about weathering space crafts. In plastic model community. I seen some really nice weathering on space crafts. Should Google that and check that out, could give you some ideas.
My two cents. I understand people want to make it realistic as possible. But, this is scifi. In Star Track/ Star Wars, you got explosions with fireballs, thundering sounds and everything. We all know that not possible in real live, but it is cool. What I'm saying is, this is all makes believes. Who to say what kind of weathering on a space craft traveling warp speed frequently, slamming into space debris and exchanging fire with other vessels would do to the surface. Will the new replacement panels from one space station to the next be the same color shades as the old. No one know. We don't have any real life klingon ship to key from. So, anything goes, I said. All up to the artists/designers how they see thing fit. If it is pleasing to their eyes. That's all that matter. I'm very interesting to see how paper community weather space craft.

sounds and rusty dust in space
sounds do travel in space, there are gases out there, much thinner than our atmosphere, yet they still float around out there like an ocean of helium and hydrogen and some other strange things, and it is even worse when you get outside this solar system, much like a rough choppy sea. the space station has confirmed that there are sounds in space, as well as listening to the planets, such as the sounds that came from saturn in the last few years, and listening to stars.
as for space weathering of real space craft, again, the space station has rusty looking dust on the seams and protrusions, and that should be a real close estimate of what weathered space craft would look like. i guess there is a maximum amount of dust it would ''weather'' before clumps fell off, i would imagine quite a bit. also the military and commericial space industry are checking out space dust to see it there are any benifets to scooping out the dust from space and using it for whatever it can be exploited for. jim |

did not someone said, that we need more Klingon ships? here are 2 of my WIP-models! Both have an active cloaking device, but here some hints:
-the first is a well known ship -the second is NOT a "canon" ship! itīs a converted game model, but also known, if you know the right website! |
