I then added the main roof, using bristol card to make it sturdy - it completes the strength of the model's spine. There are going to be a lot of little dormers and decorative windows added.

There are also towers that are square or octagonal that fit onto the sides. each has tabs that fit into slots in the base, and more tabs that anchor the tower to the sidewalls. I usually cut tabs off, but these seem to be helpful, so I am leaving them on.

Then there is an array of little structures that connect the main station building wit the tacks quays. These are mostly simple sheds, but the design can get complex. The little building with the multi-faceted roof was entirely formed from one single piece of paper, and a lot of fiddly folds (last photo).

Next will be finishing the quays themselves

Poking around, I found a few pix of what the South entry hall looks like now. Those 1/1000 people are going to be VERY small!

Haha, I meant 1/1000 scale paper people! Rob, you sound like a guy who spends a lot of time working with tiny living organisms.

You are right Art Deco - at least thinking about them.

Also, the trains that come with the model are very boring. I see this is the station for the shinkasen bullet trains. Any thoughts on how to build a 1/1000 Japanese bullet train?

1:1000 paper people?
Are you joking?I don't think the humans shape is even cutable in that small scale.
If you consider the width of human is around...40~60cm...it will be 0.4~0.6mm in 1:1000 and my best guess is to cut them to octagon instead of rectangle///
Can't wait to see them.

I just stopped over at Tokyo Station from the All Japan model and hobby show 2012 today at the Makuhari messe exhibition center. As I was transferring to my local train, I happened upon a picture exhibit in the station corridor of the history of the station.

I will post some shortly.

Interesting

Smile Pictures

At the 2012 All Japan Model and Hobby show today ( October 13 ) there was this model of the Tokyo station.
Not sure what material it was made of as I could not touch it.

Isaac - thanks very much for sharing these pictures. I gather this is a real icon of a building. Something like old Grand Central Station in New York... I had to put my build aside, tho' almost finished - will be back to it soon.

Rob,

If you want small figures, go to David hathaway's paper shipwright page. He has some down loadable. I've seen them with his half inch Rolls Royce.

You will have to reduce the figures, they are 1:250

Cheers
Mike
