I guess I'm not the only paper model buff who sits though all those hours of auctioning to drool over the goody cars.

I am now in possession of the Osprey, and no, he didn't want the £2. .

It's definitely published under the "Birdmobile" brand ... listed as "Birds of Prey Series" No 2.

The only dating I can find on it is a reference to a 1983 patent by Malcolm Topp of Battle, East Sussex. Printed in England.

1983 ?? From this I can only assume that the paper birds my Dad made back in the 50s were earlier designs, prior to any patent registrations. He definitely had an Osprey, Merlin, Little Owl and Kingfisher. It must have been in the 50s, 'cos I was only little, and I went to War (Aden) in 1961.

It is in a polythene cover, but back in the 50s they were cellophane wrapped, so I'm guessing it can't be older than 1983, and may indeed be much later.

So the questions arise ... Do I get it scanned to a pdf for my archives?
Do I then make it up from a fresh print, or do I cut up this original?
And of course there's ... where the hell do I put the thing?
It would look great out in the garden, but I live in Wales ... Suffice to say "It gets a bit wet here!"

I think I might have to cross all my fingers and toes anyway when I take it to my local print shop to get it scanned, as it is quite clearly marked as copyright if you read through it.

Johnny.

I belive the wings detach? This would help with storage.

Maybe you can loan it to a museum, bird centre etc for display there?

Looking at the instructions, I think you may be right there Kevin.

Having measured up, I think it may fit in if I hang it at the head of my stairs, but getting SWMBO's permission to do so is a different story.

As to giving it to a museum or bird centre ... Not so very far away from me is a RSPB bird sanctuary that has a nesting pair of Osprey. I'll have to enquire if they'd like it. I would think they'd allready have one though, and quite likely sell the kits. Probably worth asking though.

Johnny.

Go and ask the RSPB - you never know! Whats the betting that they do not sell the kits!

I would make a copy of yours and build off this. That way if you make a mistake you will have the original avaiolable to m,ake a spare.

I say this a these kits are nice to make, but in places can be tricky. Easy to make a mistake!

I know that there's a couple used book stores around my house... Looks like I need to spend a day looking around.

Congratulations on the find.

You never know what's in the used section. I just picked these for a few dollars at HPB and promptly gave it away to fellow member here. I'm going to keep checking used book stores, you never know...
