Used Bookstore Model Finds!

I got a Gift Certificate to a bookstore near me. Its a used bookstore, but its set up more like an antique bazaar than a bookstore, The shelves are set up to create nooks or alcoves, and each alcove is actually owned by a different individual. So the store is made up of about 30 different small "bookstores"
Lots of antique stores are set up this way.

So instead of the run of the mill used books, every dealer specializes in something, there is a scifi nook (actually its own room) there is a a history specialist, a fiction specialist, comic book specialist, etc etc. you get the idea.

In the Art section I found three un-opened Domas Architectural models
Big Ben, The Arc de Triumphe and Notre Dame.
each was less than 10$ and then when I took them up to the sales counter he asked me if I saw the "others" They turned out to be some dover models
I got Cinderellas Castle and Caernarfon Castle each for less than 6$

Score!

Coincidently ... my son has just phoned me.
He found a 1:1 paper Osprey in a charity shop, and thought I might like it.

It seems complete but the packaging looks quite old and a bit tatty. A 50's original maybe ??

I said I'd often considered getting one from Didderik, but was mainly put off by the size rather than price. I nearly died when he said "Well, for £2 I thought it was worth a look, even if I have a go at making it up myself".

£2, for what may well turn out to be a valuable collectors item. I told him not to open it, and I'd pick it up on Saterday. I'm not equiped to scan A3 sheets, but I do know where I can get it done. If I do make one up it will be from a scan, not an old original print.

Johnny.

Actually the Cinderella Castle is done by Alan Rose, and for $6, that is quite the steal.
In the words of the Speed TV guys doing the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction, that was well bought

Caernarvon is part of Dover's current line up, and $6 for that kit is reasonable, the going price for that kit should be printed on the back cover

Cinderellas castle is was $5.75 I was very happy...
Caernarfon was $4.50
but there was a second identical one for $14.75, I passed on that one...
They also had the dover generic square castle for 9.95 I passed on that one too. Easy-to-Make Castle (Dover Children's Activity Books): A. G. Smith: 9780486254692: Amazon.com: Books

Oh and the Big Ben model actually came with a battery powered clock to fit inside to make it an actual clock...

Congratulations on your finds. You have inspired me to look in used book stores in the DC area. Who knows?

I haven't actually seen this Osprey yet, but I'll be passing his place on Saterday.

There's one on eBay at the moment for £29.99, and Didderick has them listed at 51.85 Euros.

As I said, due to lack of display (or Work) space, I'd not planned on getting one, much as I'd love to build it, but at £2 I'm not gonna turn it down am I. He'll probably give it to me anyway as it's my birthday on Monday.

If I can get away with hanging this up in the conservatory, getting approval to add the rest of the Bird-Mobile models shouldn't be too hard. There are a few of the smaller birds dotted around in amongst her silk flowers.

Johnny.
