Is There A Model of the Gateway Arch?
Hey Guys,
My name is Mike, aka "WeeVikes". I usually hang out in the "PASA" area, but I wanted to stick my nose in here and ask if any of you have ever run across a model of St. Louis' Gateway Arch? I was born there, and my family is all from there, and I thought it would be a cool thing to build. Thank you in advance. Mike |

Paper Toys - Paper Cut-Outs - Free at PaperToys.com has what is called The St. Louis Arch in the In Production list. That list does not seem to have been modified in quite a while, though. Maybe something to keep an eye on.

Mind not having attempted a model of the Gateway Arch, I would muse that with the availability of the blueprints-diagrams of the actual item a paper model should not be a huge task.
That said, not too huge if one is not including the interior moving car-pod system ! |

The Arch from Papertoys seems to be still unreleased. I was tempted once to design my own; each building block of the real Gateway Arch has only equilateral triangles as cross-sections, triangles that decrease in size from the bottom to the top. The centers of the triangles trace out an inverted catenary curve.
The placement of the keystone piece, with the cranes on each side near the top, would make a good diorama. I saw it on TV from my elementary school classroom in 1965. |

I found this article at ModernMechanics.com., it's a reprint about the construction of the Gateway Arch, hope it's of help.
